What is PAS2060?
PAS 2060 is the recognised standard for carbon neutrality. It requires the accounting of all emissions (buildings, transport and supply chain), the creation of a carbon reduction plan and the offsetting of the residuals through recognised schemes.
Companies with this certification are deemed carbon neutral and that their operations do not add carbon to the atmosphere.
PAS 2060 will in time become demanded of suppliers by companies who themselves are trying to become carbon neutral. Carbon accounting must be recognised by for example ISO 14064, The GHG Protocol or UK government Carbon reporting guidelines.
What is ISO 14064?
ISO 14064 is one of the standards for accounting for carbon emissions. It has quite strict reporting but is very flexible in implementation — with numerous opportunities to ignore some carbon emissions. It covers carbon emissions from buildings, transport and the supply chain.
Proper carbon accounting can show up useful insights — especially where the bulk of emissions are not where they are expected to be and this helps focus carbon reduction efforts. The majority of the emissions of a business are inevitable in the supply chain.
